Piquillo Peppers

By Hector Rodriguez, About.com

Definition: Piquillo peppers are pimiento type peppers. They are sweet and flavorful, not spicy hot.

Piquillo is the Spanish word for little beak, which is the shape of the pepper. These peppers are grown in Northern Spain and are hand picked, roasted over an open fire, peeled and packed in their own juices. Roasting the peppers enhances their rich piquant flavor.

Piquillos are high in vitamin C, E, A, and B complex. They also contain the same amount of carotene as carrots, are high in fiber, and low in calories.

Alternate Spellings: pequillo
