Believe it or not, Chinese culture has had an influence on Caribbean cuisine, although not as great an impact as some other cultures. You might be wondering how is it possible. It all started in the mid 1800s when indentured servitude replaced slavery as a cheap for of plantation labor. Many Chinese men were brought over to work the sugarcane fields. These unfortunate souls brought their food traditions, cooking techniques, and ingredients with them, which become part of the vibrant cuisine of the Caribbean.
